Busot

Above Busot, the road climbs the flank of Cabeçó d'Or to the Canelobre cave. Its entrance leads into an enormous limestone chamber whose columns, curtains and hanging formations have grown over geological time. The best visit gives those formations room to speak, then looks back out at the mountain that contains them.

The cave is part of Busot's identity, but the town itself matters too: its streets, castle remains and ethnographic music museum make a stop below the mountain worthwhile. The contrast is striking. Below ground, water has built stone drop by drop; outside, the same limestone ridge rises above a dry Mediterranean landscape between Alicante and the coast.
