A new place to explore

Aspe on foot: from the Tarafa to the basilica

Aspe is easiest to understand by walking from the Río Tarafa into its centre. The planted river corridor brings shade and water close to the town, while the streets above lead to the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Socorro, the market and the civic square. This is a useful town walk, not a race to collect landmarks.

Water made the surrounding fields productive and left a chain of channels, mills and bridges around the Tarafa. The council has extended the river path towards the Los Algezares landscape, where old aqueducts and the Puentes de los Ojos carry that engineering story beyond the urban edge. Aspe's historic centre, meanwhile, retains the scale of a working Vinalopó town.
