Aigües

The nineteenth-century spa, its water story and a village walk below Cabeçó d'Or.

A new place to explore

Aigües: the old balneario and the pine slopes above the coast

Aigües sits on the inland side of the Cabeçó d'Or, close to the sea but shaped by springs rather than beaches. Its former balneario and the large houses of La Pinada recall the visitors who came for the waters in the nineteenth century. The village is a good place to read that history without turning the abandoned spa into an adventure site.

The spa drew well-off visitors into a landscape that had long been valued for its water. Pine trees and garden plots softened a dry mountain setting; the name Aigües still points to the resource on which the settlement traded. From the village, the old resort buildings sit within a larger pattern of hillside houses, paths and views toward the Alicante coast.
