NO SMOKING

We have now had the smoking ban in Spain in public places for nearly 6 months and would be interesting to find out how this may or may not have affected the businesses in the area. In particular we would love to hear your comments if you are a Bar/Cafe/Restaurant owner!!!! I personally have spoken to a number of these owners and the majority say it has not affected their trade and as long as the law does not incorporate the 50 metre rule from establishments, then the majority of businesses feel they can move forward.
Please have your say and express your views and comments. Regards

We haven´t been out here in Spain too long and we were used to smoking outside in the UK, so to smoke outside in the beautiful sunshine or the shade if you wish is a godsend. This is only my opinion but I think businesses in Spain will not really be affected and thats mainly due to the weather.

Obviously It was an absolute major culture shock to the Spanish public as this was part of their way of life. I know its only been in existence for 6 months but the signs are very encouraging. We have lived here for nearly 7 years and have seen many changes during this time and we had a business for 6 of these years and never thought the smoknig ban would work. Speaking to many Spanish and British businesses that know very well, the majority say that as long as you have outside space the public have no issue in having a fag on the terrace. In fact, some of the establishments have seen an increase in the numbers as more and more people prefer using these places as there is no smoke wafting across when they are having their meals. So in my opinion I think the ban has had a positive effect on businesses and health.

Find out the Truth

Jeff Wiszniewski, I have no axe to grind with you,But as our only non Spaniard,on the council,I look to you to keep me truly informed on what is happening on La Marina. As yet I have asked a few questions, which you have followed up,but i gather did not ask for reasons to the answers given. One of these was the music in bars and your answer was sweet but was in fact a statement that anybody can complain about noise at any time and have the bar concerned turn the music down regardless of time of day.
The second thing animal ambulance being taken off the road by police, you stated the ITV ran out that day, could you not of asked to see the proof, because if it was the last day it was still valid to be on the road,so why did the police take it.Other letters state it was still valid for two more days.it seems that some people are being short of truth when you ask questions, but you do not see these part truths and dig a little deeper.so at the end of the day you are telling us what you are being told to say which in some cases is not the whole story

La Marina

Alan, personally I think that Jeff W is falling foul of his own enthusiasm. He is new in The Town Hall and I hope he quickly settles in and does a good job for us here on the Urb. We must remember that Jeff may have his followers and party behind him but at the end of the day he is a one man party in The Town Hall and perhaps has little or no power at the moment.

Re. sacked town hall workers

Mark Lewis website is saying the new goverment sacked two town hall workers. Mark thats what happens when a new goverment take over and find the last goverment left them broke..Ps your making such a big deal over nothing when i know a good friend of mine worked in the town hall speaks excellent spanish and english and when the AIM PSOE got together in the last four years you that goverment sacked her, sighting lack of funds. You got anything else better to come up with, your not a paid councillor so go back to the bars and resturants and play your little organ and piano....PS The new PP party didnt move into the town hall on May 11th it was June 11th so change your comments as your confusing the people who read your website.

I can assure admin that angelique may or may not know what they is talking about, they have one agenda and that is to spoil your forum if you are happy with that then so be it.undoubtably she will find something sarcastic to say about me,but professionals have tried that in the past,it is like water off a ducks back.

Commented Alan in La Marina 2011-06-28 21:58:31 UTC

Angelique have you ever been to the satellite Town hall, because i think you would notice that very few work there,so you would definitely notice the difference if 60% were sacked

Tobaconist / Lottery Shop

I gather that the tobaconist in La Marina Urb will open on 1st July for what I understand to be a three month period. The new politicians in The Town Hall have already shown themselves to be prepared for change and I therefore wonder if it is possible for our tobaconist to be open all year round. Here in San Fulgencio the vast majority of the residents live on La Marina Urb, however, at the moment we are all needing to drive to San Fulgencio or La Marina village if we need cigarettes or lottery tickets, all of which seems unnecessary if we had our own tobaconist/lottery shop?

Easy Solution here - just give up the fags - disgusting habit !!

Commented Carol in La Marina 2011-06-26 07:00:24 UTC

I was told by a tobac owner, that you have to have a certain population to be able to have a tobac shop, and that la Marina Urb only reach that figure in the holiday months.hence we only have a tobac shop in that period.Weird really when you think that in the winter we have more bars than we do residents, but they still manange to stay open if just to pay the bills

Commented Alan in La Marina 2011-06-26 08:31:04 UTC

Wow what i find weird about that myself Alan is La Marina urb. is one of the biggest in europe and we cant even manage to open a tobaconist all year round. As remember if you use the tobaconist in the village your funding elche town hall

Commented Andi in La Marina 2011-06-26 08:39:04 UTC

Yes andi, you are right about funding Elche,Also some of the Village tobac staff havnt been taught about customer service,I look upon them and some of the staff in Lidl,as the worst customer care people I have seen.Of course the obvious answer would be to go to the little tobac.in San Fulhencio, who seem to learned customer care, and that way our local town hall benefit.
The other point you make is valid to the point of the size of the Urb.to the size of San Fulhencio. But the Urb is pretty sparse of people in the cooler months, where as the ¨'Town' is mainly Spanish permanent residents

Commented Alan in La Marina 2011-06-26 09:59:57 UTC

Alan,
I appreciate your input but if San Fulgencio Village with its very, very limited population can justify having a tobaconist/Lottery Shop the the Urbanisation certainly can?

Commented Angelique in La Marina 2011-06-26 18:08:59 UTC

Angelique,I didnt explain my comment very well, about the tobac shop.I should of made it plain, that the population of the 'Town and the Urb.warrant one permanent tobac.either in the 'Town or the Urb.Plus another temporary one in the Summer months as this area swells in population for those months.I gather the 'Town was chosen as it has a more regular clientele throughout the year.
Also i am trying to understand your comment to Nikki`s reply concerning her spelling.

Commented Alan in La Marina 2011-06-27 09:58:51 UTC

Alan,
I think we are all aware of the fact the current tobaconist/lottery shop is in San Fulgencio. I have not seen anyone deny that this is 100% accurate, however, the population of the Urb. far out weighs the population of San Fulgencio irrespective of season. I do not know of any reason why we could not have a tobaconist/lottery shop permanently here on the Urb. Do you yourself know of any reason? If the politicians decide to issue a further licence then they will do it, will they not?

Commented Angelique in La Marina 2011-06-27 10:21:26 UTC

Correct me if Im wrong, I thought The La Marina Urbanisation was in San Fulgencio therefore making it one place and not somewhere different. Therefore it only warrants one permanent tabbaco shop. Yes?

Commented Malika in La Marina 2011-06-27 15:52:24 UTC

Do any of our politicians read these posts or are we simply wasting our time?
I certainly have not received any comments from anyone from The San Fulgencio Ivory Tower!

Commented Angelique in La Marina 2011-06-27 17:46:59 UTC

I suppose your right Angelique, but what about the pollution of the cigarettes themselves! and what about the journey to and from Mercadona, Iceland and Lidls. Does anyone think of that?

Commented Malika in La Marina 2011-06-28 07:21:51 UTC

Malcolm!
I agree with you, cigarette contamination is not good but neither you nor I will stop that? However, the opening of a permanent shop in the Urb is a start to get to grips with the problem, is it not?
